Jet settin… February-June ‘09

So it has again been a few months since the last update and all is, well, pretty much swell.. I spent a month and a half on Oahu Hawaii, working with Otis Schaper and Pete Thorns crew at The Hawaii Surf Factory(see link) building around 70 customs and stocks for Aloha Board shop(see link) in Honolulu and ect.. all hand shaped, Which seems to be the winning touch to the boards as more and more core surfers are gravitating to the more specialized “one off” style boards… ahh yes variety is the spice is suppose… Anyhow i’ve also been on two seperate trips to Costa Rica, surfing abroad and doing business with Joss.. surf shop in Jaco, see my next write up  for specifics and info on that sweet trip (s)… anyhow much Aloha to all my fellow FLA surfers for enduring the unrelenting summer flatness, seems the west coast and north east coast of Fl have been seening some much needed summer bumps for surf, Get some!!… bat

So anyhow, it’s been a bit since I have updated the site. It’s been a not so busy, busy year or so, so to speak… but anyhow, I’m back and will be posting more regularly than ever….for any of those interested I’ll try and catch you up on the last several months/years, whatever, in a poetic gesture, if I may…Huhummm, About six work related travel trips; Hawaii, Brazil, CA., NC…and plenty O’ Fla things… Lotsa surf/surfing last fall for most of us( here in Florida that is)… it’s where I live, what can I say!? Lotsa customs for all! Hurray!… So, I’m back with L.P. Surf Glass, thank you Mr. Pope… And anyhow as I must digress, you see, almost all my “dealers” choked, and said they could not pay, but as we find in our “hardcore” shops tons of Asian glass, readily on display… This next part didn’t rhyme, but what the hay, i think I’m over the poetry for now… My theory is most shops can pay, it’s just that there is/has been just another board builder, or even worse, importer willing to give them boards on consignment, where they just end up being unserviced props.. sad, but when the shops had to pay c.o.d.(only a few years ago), they had to sell the boards they bought, simple formula, but it worked great!…anyhow,.. so I’m carving out customs with love!, ALL Hand Shaped, mostly polyester, with a few epoxies(hand laid up thank you) in the mix… This.., and that are keeping me smiling! (and a little golf here and there doesn’t hurt either!!)….Also, I have friend(Kirby Langelier) setting up a CAD shaping service in my IHB warehouse, in which even the most technically inept surf dog can either digitally design their own board or sit down with me(Brian Tudor), or any of our in house shape masters ( Rich Price, CT Taylor or Pete Dooley (Natural Art)) and digitally design a board; which can be a bit more accurately reproduced if it’s a winner.. Or you can just get one hand shaped, and that sometimes seems to work the best anyhow!… We will also have a fairly good selection of stock shapes, just in case your so inclined to pick one from the rack vs. custom…. Basically all is good, and if my business ends up back where it was 10 yrs. ago, selling heaps of boards to “dealers” rather than customs factory direct to the public, it will be under my terms… Aloha and Mahalo, bat
